Swimming with the sharks

Just when you thought it was safe enough to go back into the water….you discover that this photograph is REAL and HAS NOT been through Photoshop. Shot in Shark Bay..near Gansbaai.
The first time we spotted this nightmare shot was on display at Orms photo warehouse in Cape Town. Naturally (due to our own fascination with the sea and surfski paddling) we dismissed it as a fake.
Now it turns out that this is indeed a real shot. Full story over at the Surfski blog.
Advise for you if you become the style star in shot like this:
“First and foremost, enjoy the moment!” This is a rare
interaction with nature and one that is unlikely to have unpleasant
consequences. “Sharks that you see are rarely the problem,” he added,
“but the one thing you must not do is panic!”
Here fishy fishy…..

That is an insane interaction with nature. Seeing that behind you would be enough to cause you to fall off! Although the shark is not as big as they get (6m), its still pretty huge.

So what happened to the paddler?

The guy in the boat is a researcher who was studying sharks from the comfort of his open small boat when this shot was taken. He’s laughing and having a cold lager with all limbs intact as we speak.
Nightmare photograph, but the shark was just curious.
