Dress up your leads

Nothing could be simpler that this, but you’re going to wonder what’s wrong with you when you realise how many times you’ve rebooted the DSTV and blown the TV tube just trying to unplug the PS2 to plug in the VCR, all because you didn’t know which cable belonged to the PS2.
To even the odds a German design firm has come up with these cable ID tags.
Cable ID is a rubberhelix complete with a display for labelling. With
the help of Cable ID it is easily possible to identify any cable.
If multiple sockets are crowded with cables or cables have to be
unplugged from time to time – cables always look nearly identical and
it is hard to find the right plug.

USB Christmas tree

It would be rude to go through a Christmas without some gawdy, cheap, seasonal decorations.
It seems like all the rage right now are those big shiney wire and bead trees that are being sold in Woolworths and other very overpriced retail outlets, hoping to cash in on your holiday cheer and refusal to buy one of those nasty pine excuses at the side of the road.
Here’s what we’re getting. Still smelling like a Chinese sweatshop…it’s a USB Christmas tree which includes wind blown snow from an internal fan, a music player with a medley of Christmas carols, and
features either Santa with his sleigh, or a girl with a mobile phone.

Joburg better than Cape Town

Sure Cherryflava is proudly published from our snappy HQ in downtown Cape Town, but we love the vibe and ‘look and feel’ of our northern sister city.
Now, to everyone’s suprise, the British media is starting to warm to the idea of Johannesburg as a tourist destination.
In an article entitled ‘Boom town’ - the Guardian falls just short of actually hugging and kissing Joburg as if to bring it in from the cold after all these years of bad press about crime and grime.
Next thing you know, all those poms that were gonna hit Ibiza and Tenerife….will change their plans… head this way and will end up chugging lagers in Hillbrow and causing fights with the Nigerians. [Via Gridskipper]
Video vending

This is one of those ‘only in Japan’ kind of trends, but still worth a mention.
Nintendo and some company called AM3 are now distributing video content for the GBA Movie Player
this winter in Japan. Taking the form of an old-school “Gashapon” (toy
capsule) machine, this device allows you to insert your GBA movie
player flash memory card, crank a handle and instantly download anime
episodes to watch on your GBA. Episodes are around 25 minutes each and
priced at 300-yen to download, with popular shows being offered, such
as Pokemon and Detective Conan. [via]
Count yourselves lucky that you live in a country where the population are still sceptical about cigarette vending in clubs. Very soon in Japan there’s going to be no need for human interaction anywhere.
Kazakhstan missing massive opportunity

The tourist authority of Kazakhstan could not buy the amount of amazing marketing milage Borat has given them….and by wanting to sue Sacha Baron Cohen they are stuffing up a massive opportunity to get people to visit the country.

Only five weeks left before Christmas morning….so we’ve been scouting around to find that perfect something for ourselves and stumbled on Pee & Poo.
These adorable human waste soft toys we’re designed by a Swede and have quickly developed a cult following.
Designer Emma Megitt launched her unique friends at the Future Designer
Days Expo this year. The first batch of Pee & Poo toys hit Sweden
and where sold out quicker than you can say Abba. The controversy
surrounding a line of toys representing human waste has created great
publicity for Megitt and has launched her name into the designer world
spotlight. Originally sold separately Pee & Poo now come in a duo
pack. So you get both bodily functions covered in the one box.
We’ve always been partial to a bit of toilet humour, so at 35 euros our verdict is that pee and poo are the way forward this festive season. [Via thecoolhunter]

Martin from D2 has us hooked….on these damn South African TV theme tunes from the early days of the SABC.
You’re going to be showing your age as you once again shiver with anticipation at the sound of the theme tune to shows like Battlestar Galactica, CHiPS and our all time favourite wannabe series Magnum PI.
Those were the simple days of one channel; English Mondays, Afrikaans Thursdays…before DSTV but post Springbok radio.

8 Basic Photoshop steps

Having never been on a Photoshop course ourselves…any tips on how to actually use the software is always helpful.
