We’re taking a holiday
Posted on 15. Dec, 2005 by Cassandra.
Cherryflava is taking a holiday to an exotic location after a hard year of posting. Yay!
So allow us to leave you with these wishes:
May peace break into your house and may thieves come to steal your debts.
May the pockets of your jeans become a magnet for R200 notes.
May love stick to your face like Vaseline and may laughter assault your lips!
May your clothes smell of success like smoked tyres and may happiness slap you across the face and your tears be that of joy.
May the problems you had, forget your home address!
In simple words………… May 2006, be the best year of your life.
We’ll be back early January…see you all on the other side.
Will the mustache make a comeback?
Posted on 15. Dec, 2005 by Cassandra.
Not since Magnum PI threw dirt around with the wheel of his red Ferrari has the mustache in any way been advisable for public display.
But the question really is….could you feel confident in an animal print Speedo and a ’stache playing armless volleyball of Clifton 4th?
As Mr. Della Valle sees it,
the mustache is now generally thought of as the realm of "homosexuals,
white trash, child molesters, cops, and uncles."
But now Jason Lee is sporting the famous facial hair in a ‘gaining in popularity’ TV show in the States. So it could all just be a matter of time.

The world of blogs in 2005
Posted on 14. Dec, 2005 by Cassandra.
Type the word "blog" into Google’s search box, and you’ll receive a whopping 515
million search results, nearly twice as many as you receive for "sex."
Love ‘em or hate ‘em, blogs are the real deal. Even if we deflate the hype and
ignore the overly optimistic prognostications of the blog A-list evangelists, we still have an unmistakable, off-the-charts development with huge, ever-evolving implications.
Read the whole article ‘The pocket guide to the 2005 blogosphere’ here.
In South Africa, the local blog community has grown like a baby gorilla.
We hosted the first South African blog awards, there was a bit of a legal issue, South Africans have started podcasting and as far as we can tell….here’s the biggest blog in South Africa.
Could a blog about infertility win ‘Best overall blog’ in 2006?
Cook like Jamie Oliver
Posted on 13. Dec, 2005 by Cassandra.
Doesn’t Jamie Oliver work on your nerves?
From basic things like fish and beans, lugs of olive oil and a couple of bashes of one of those grinding things, he can rustle up the best looking grub and make a lot of money at the same time.
Fear not….for we’ve found a website which will turn the last remaining dodgy tomatoes and onions in your fridge into Jamie’s next creation.
Cooking By Numbers is a site that’ll pull up easy to do
recipes based on what you’ve got on hand. You check the ingredients
you’ve got around the house, hit "Find Recipes" and
you’ll be given a list of things you can cook based on what you’ve
got.
If you don’t have much of anything, the form will let you know
how close you are and what you need to get. There are some yummy
sounding dishes in there and it makes for a great solution when you
can’t decide what to have for dinner. [Thanks Lifehacker]

Polka TV ads
Posted on 09. Dec, 2005 by Cassandra.
We haven’t been nasty about local TV advertising for some time now.
But, because it’s Friday, we’re not exactly going to start now.
Just for laughs….we’re found a couple of Polka ads for download. Seriyas? ….seriyas.
Aussie IDEA awards
Posted on 08. Dec, 2005 by Cassandra.
It seems that Australians have another talent besides playing good rugby cricket.
Scanning through the finalist’s entries on the 2005 Australian IDEA awards web page.…we have to admit, we’re impressed.
The awards highlight the crème de la creme of young designers in the
fields of interior and product designs in residential, commercial, retail,
hospitality, ECO, product and concept design. [via]
Check out the awesome hospitality design concepts listed.
Back home – don’t forget about our own world class Design Indaba. The 9th Design Indaba Conference at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 22 to 24 February 2006.
Even if you’re not in the traditional design industry, it’s a great business ideas conference to dig into. This year a whole bunch of people from Investec attended.
Bookings (we think) are now open.
The British are invading South Africa again
Posted on 08. Dec, 2005 by Cassandra.
Local advertising is set to get a good old creatively positioned kick in the arse next year with the news that Richard Branson’s Virgin group is set to take on the mighty Vodacom and MTN in South Africa.
All of this on the back of news that the same brand is causing mayhem in Canada where as part of a promotion for its Hot Box cell phone, Virgin mobile Canada
created some Christmas wrapping paper that shows angels kissing and
fondling one another.
Twelve year olds are lovin’ it….but their fathers are not impressed.
The Cherryflava hot tip this morning is that Virgin will also soon be launching a credit card in South Africa – which will make the feeling of drowning in your own debt just that much cooler.
Now this is a snowdome
Posted on 07. Dec, 2005 by Cassandra.
Quick heads up to Cape Town’s Anal Canal Walk shopping centre.
If you phlamsters are going to actively advertise and promote a ‘working winter wonderland’ complete with real snow and a cool slope this Christmas….next year you’d better make sure you lift your game and learn from these people over in Dubai who have created the Snowdome.
Your attempt at a frozen water park, fit for energy riddled kids like ourselves, totally blows.
Check out these awesome BBC pics of Dubai’s one.
See it’s big enough and actually has real snow.
Here’s the rest of the story and a link to Ski Dubai’s official site.
Thanks Gridskipper.
New animal discovered
Posted on 06. Dec, 2005 by Cassandra.
No way. Just when you thought we’d successfully killed almost every living beast on the planet…another one of these pesky things pops up again to torment us.
The BBC is breaking news that a new mammal has been discovered in the forests of Borneo.
WWF caught two images of the animal, which is bigger than a domestic cat, dark red, and has a long muscular tail. (Here is the photograph, which has cause all the trouble – unfocussed, obstructed by a well-placed leaf – could be a tiger for all we can make out here)
We’ve got a sneaky suspicion that this is just some poor domestic cat that got caught in the cross fire of an Iranian nuclear weapons testing programme in the area and now looks a bit deformed. [via]
