To do: Go snowboarding
Posted on 14. Jun, 2005 by Cassandra.
What we would give to go back to Tiffendell this year. Last year’s trip was seriously the business.
Unfortunately there’s no hope of getting out to the sub-zero piste of Tiffendell this year….and besides, it doesn’t look like they’ve had that much snow in anycase and it’s a very long drive from everywhere.
Not like New Zealand…who seem to have created a whole snow tourism thing down there.
In fact…the Kiwi vibe looks so good, it might even be worth the trip over there to go play on their mountains. Maybe next year. [via]

Oprah is Zulu
Posted on 13. Jun, 2005 by Cassandra.
….and she loves the Spur and Nandos. (mmmmm….Nandos)
Now that’s product endorsement for you….wait for the ad.
On the headline topic….Oprah said:
"I always wondered what it would be like if it turned out I am a South
African.
"I feel so at home here.
"Do you know that I actually am one?
"I went
in search of my roots and had my DNA tested, and I am a Zulu," she said to
loud cheers.
"I’m crazy about the South African accent. I wish I had been born here."
OK…good…but is it really possible to trace your exact geneological heritage so easily with a DNA test?
Scientists believe we’re all African…and we all knew that the Spur was the business. On the accent front Oprah (we know you’re a regular reader)…all we can offer you is this tutorial which should help.
…it’s called How to speak English with an Afrikaans accent, and should have your fellow American’s swooning in no time.
ABSA tries viral
Posted on 10. Jun, 2005 by Cassandra.
How stoopid does ABSA think we are?
Please…give us some credit here. OK…here’s the story.
ABSA are running a dumb TV ad that frankly doesn’t make alot of sense. It goes on and on about "My Bank is My Rock", or "My Bank is My Open Road"…that kind of drivel.
Now the ads are being spoofed by ‘somebody’…like the example on the left.
The new payoff line "My Bank is Absa" has been replaced by "My Bank is Stoopid".
ABSA…you are stoopid. We all know that you made these things as a lame attempt to generate a bit of viral coverage. The spoofs are as boring as the original campaign.
Well….it worked slightly, well done…nobody cares about your ads…work on delivering service to your overpaying clients and make a groundbreaking ad about that. Now fire that agency of yours and get to work making your clients happy.
Trump car
Posted on 10. Jun, 2005 by Cassandra.
Who ever said money can’t buy you a bit of love. Here’s proof doing the rounds on the net:
AutoWonder friend, Adcomhabib snapped this shot last week in NY.
Pictured here is Mr. Donald Trump taking delivery of a brand new
Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren in front of Trump tower.
It’s believed that the $600000 (R4.2 mil) car is a gift for the Donald’s 35 year old super model wife. It’s her birthday and it would have been rude if he didn’t get her something expensive. Nice work if you can get it.

Marketing the news
Posted on 09. Jun, 2005 by Cassandra.
Let’s face it….the news and newsreaders are not exactly ever going to compete with SuperSport in the channel surfing game…but that’s perhaps not the case in France.
2Oceanvibe (now with permalinks) have the lowdown on Melissa Theuriau (pictured here), who’s a French LCI News anchorwoman.
Check out the gallery dedicated to Melissa’s every move here.
Textbook world-class branding strategy right here. Classy, intelligent, French, hot….well done.
…And the winner is….

It’s official….Africa….and closer to home, SAA is going to be awarded with it’s first Darwin award.
Splattermail and other credible sources of current affairs earlier reported about a bright spark who decided to get outta Dakar by hopping into the wheel-well of an SAA airplane en route to NYC. When the pilots flipped the gear switch during landing preparations….the severed leg of the world traveller floated down to earth, ending up in somebody’s garden. JFK airport workers spent the rest of the day scraping the other half of guy out out of the plane.
So for showing true creativity and huge entertainment value, Cherryflava’s going to submit this story to the Darwin Awards (The Darwin Awards salute the improvement of the human genome by honoring those who accidentally kill themselves in really stupid ways. Of necessity, this honor is generally bestowed posthumously). Won’t we be proud if he wins.
Here we go again…
Posted on 07. Jun, 2005 by Cassandra.
There’s terror in the waters of the western Cape again….and Cherryflava’s got a good suspicion that the ANC’s behind it.
Seriously…are these kind of headlines really necessary?
Shark tossed Matie into air
Tourist battles shark in dreams
Hundreds mourn shark victim
….hmmm..this is a bit confusing…
Parents make peace with shark victim’s fate
but then….Kill the killer, says grieving father.
Get over it people…sharks are wild animals that live in the sea. Go into the sea and you automatically have to make peace with the fact that you’re now part of the food chain.
Put your guns away…there will be no ‘war on sharks‘ or ‘elimination’ of rogue animals. Have a war on rapists or hijackers or corrupt politicians, but leave the wild animals to do their thing.
Craigslist Cape Town
Posted on 06. Jun, 2005 by Cassandra.
OK…so you’ve read the news that Craigslist is now in Cape Town. So what?
How does this news impact your life or make living in Cape Town even better than what it already is?
Founded in 1995 by Craig Newmark, craigslist (www.craigslist.com) was conceived as a sort of grassroots channel for San Franciso residents to spread the word about interesting happenings in the community.
It has since grown into a sprawling set of free listings for just about everything:
childcare; ride shares; jobs and résumés; housing; items for sale, swap, or rent; personals (as with all personals, examine at your own risk); services, events and locally-oriented forums, among many others.
For example, check out what we found this morning:
I’m moving to Cape Town at the end of July and staying untill late
January. I’m a Danish girl age 21 and I need a furnished place to live.
Smoker. (…she admits that?)
or….I am looking for a small apartment in a nice area of Capetown for two
weeks in late July or early August. I am a school teacher in New York
City. If you are interested in swapping for NYC, I have a beautiful 2
bedroom home in prime Carrol Gardens Brooklyn – newly renovated with a
beautiful backyard. Please e-mail me if you are interested in
sub-letting your place, or if you’d like to swap. Thanks! (…we might take up this offer)
or….what about this lonely American girl who’s been watching too many reruns of ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ while tripping on Swazi skunk.
Go check it out Cape Town.
