Saturday, Cherryflava headed through to the Design Indaba Expo at the CTICC. The event was far better organised than last year’s and the level of creativity and design showcased was impressive. Still can’t help feeling that South African design seems to be caught in a zone of having to conform to ethinic African lines. Overall though….although small and limited, the expo was well worth the visit.

To do: Get exercise

Mtb_1 If you are still carrying a bit of Christmas cheer, the cover of Men’s Health makes you put back that 4th packet of hot-cross buns or you own the Chariots of Fire DVD….then March is the perfect month for you.

The Cape of great events will be hosting the Argus/ Pick ‘n Pay mountain bike challenge out at Boschendal…6 March 2005. Entries are still open for this one.  The venue and scenery are well worth the mission.

Something for the more athletic is the Two Ocean’s Ultra and half marathons. This race is regarded as the world’s most beautiful race. Tough, but a cracker. Entries close this Monday.

Big news is that the Super 12 starts this weekend. First game at Newlands…Stormers vs Pilchards. Shame. Make sure you get down there, because the team heads to the land/s down under for sometime after this one.

Now you know.

How to blog

Blog Just having a look at the blogs listed in this year’s SA blog awards…kind of made Cherryflava wonder.

What makes one blog better than another?

There’s no doubt that good blogs are well written, full of fresh daily postings and are on top of the news. But surely there have to be rules, which somebody’s noted down to help us create better blogs for our readers to enjoy.

A while back, massiv New York blog Gothamist posted their guide…What not to do when you blog!

George Bush tests new weapon

Supernova2 The US development of seri-yas weapons of mass destruction seems to be going extremely well.

The BBC reports that… Astronomers say they have been stunned by the amount of energy released in a star explosion on the far side of our galaxy, 50,000 light-years away.

Conspiracy theorists listen up…all of this happened just one day after the Asia tsunami on 27 December 2004. Cue eerie organ music.

"We figure that it’s probably the biggest explosion observed by humans within our galaxy since Johannes Kepler saw his supernova in 1604," Dr Rob Fender, of Southampton University, UK, told the BBC News website.

One calculation has the giant flare on SGR 1806-20 unleashing about 10,000 trillion trillion trillion watts.

That’s sure to work over those nasty Iranians and teach the North Koreans a lesson while we’re at it.

How bad…..Cherryflava pics has been a bit slack of late. Need to seriously lift our game seeing that we’re one of the finalists in the best photolog awards section of this year’s South African blog awards.

As a bit of an excuse the Nikon D70 has been in for repairs lately….and only just came back.
So to get things going again, follow the trail to Robertson….to the Pat Busch private nature reserve and shots of the Craigon and Angela’s wedding.

Cherryflava went to a wedding this past weekend. Good friends Craigon and Angela finally made it official on another good friend’s farm just outside Robertson.

The setting was perfect, the bride stunning and the groom….well….suitable well-groomed. As you can probably tell from these shots…there was a bit of rain (which totally added to the occasion in a hugely positive way), lots of beautiful woman who are clearly avid Cherryflava fans and good music supplied by some of Cape Town kicking DJs. A brilliant time was had by all. Some of the guests are still hearing the styling beats which wunderkind Nick Matthews was mastering on the night.

Congrats guys…all the best for your future together.

The future of tourism

Theblock

Welcome to The Block….no not the Aussie reality show…it’s the world’s first snowboarder hotel, and it’s the future of tourism.

The worlds FIRST snowboarder Hotel created by professional snowboarder Marc Frank Montoya and Las Vegas Hotelier Liko S. Smith.
THE BLOCK is a modern day renaissance in high altitude accommodations. All of our rooms include items like cordless phones, CD players, game consoles, board pegs, bike hooks and free wireless access. All rooms have a hip, "no frills" look. Other amenities include free Gift Bags, Cliff bars, Cambell’s soup at hand, Microwavable Popcorn, internet terminals, waxing/tuning services in the winter and rooftop hot tub. ALL GUEST receive free VIP line passes into Club Altitude at Harrahs; our official party spot.
The only place to stay in South Lake Tahoe!

Trendwatching reports…

The hotel’s signature BRANDED BRANDS rooms, subliminally designed and equipped by the likes of DVS Shoe Company, Napster, Transworld Snowboarding Magazine, Flow Bindings, Zoo York, Spy Optic, Section Outerwear, Roxy Clothing, Jones Soda Co, Vivid Video and Marc Frank Montoya. Talk about new forms of brand experience!

What a brilliant concept…there’s no bigger drawcard than getting top brands to jump on board to make the experience of buying a service like staying in a hotel, that much sweeter.

It may be pricey…but screw Tiffendell this year, we’re going to Tahoe.

Paris hacked

Paris_princess_1The big news item breaking us into this week are the entertaining pics and the globally hot story of the Princess of the United States, Paris Hilton, and her hacked T-Mobile Sidekick II.

Not suprisingly it’s not the first time this has happened. Doesn’t blondie learn?

The geek reason for how it is possible for Paris’s world to be made even more public?

Since the Sidekick II stores copies of all its data on T-Mobile’s servers, this means that it’s more than likely that everyone who uses the Sidekick (which is only available from T-Mobile), is at risk of having their private pictures exposed to the world. There is a rumor going around that her password was conned out of her, though, which would be lovely to hear (since it would mean the servers are theoretically intact).

Poor Paris…but in the search for answers as to ‘why Paris’……..it seems that these acts of cruelty have been happening for sometime now. This indepth analysis of the world’s favourite party girl dates back to 2003….

Hilton spends an inordinate amount of time on her phone: "This summer, I was in Greece on a boat with no cell phone," she says. "It kind of sucked, but if I had it, someone would call and be like, ‘What are you up to tonight?’ And I’d be like, ‘I’m in the middle of the ocean, asshole.’ " [Via]

Shares in Hilton International shot up a half percent on the NYSE this morning.
