Cellphones are old news…the new must-have wannabe gadget is the Blackberry, and it’s on it’s way to South Africa.
Vodacom plans to introduce Vodafone’s industry leading multi-media consumer service, Vodafone live!, early next year. Vodacom customers will be able to access a whole new world of communication from customised Vodafone handsets, supplied by world leading handset manufacturers. Customers will be able to send and receive video and picture messages, download games, music, pictures and video and access entertainment such as sport, news and weather from leading entertainment brands. Vodafone live! is currently available in 20 countries and already has more than 10 million customers.
Ok…so WTF is a Blackberry…..
‘VVVVVVZZZZZZZZT! Vvvvvvzzzzzzzzt! CLONG!” says the little grey box, roughly the size of a cigarette packet, sitting on my desk. “CLONG! CLONG!” This is no ordinary, irritating little grey box. This is a BlackBerry 7710v — cutting-edge, yuppie fad stuff. Combining mobile phone, e-mail receiver, and personal organiser, the BlackBerry is at the vanguard of the office’s march into your home.
I pick it up and jiggle the little trackwheel with my thumb. The screen lights up. I press the trackwheel in until it clicks, and — disco! — it shoots to my e-mail inbox, where a little orange envelope indicates an unread message. Jiggle, click. The message is from me. “Testing,” says the subject field. “Boo!” says the message. Underneath is the message that really matters: the message from the BlackBerry. Under a neat row of dashes, it announces: “Sent from my BlackBerry Wireless Handheld.”
It’s coming soon, look out for it if you want amaze your nerdy friends
